SOD FACTS
- A 50 by 50 foot lawn (2,500 square feet) releases enough oxygen for a family of four, while absorbing carbon dioxide, hydrogen fluoride and perosyacetyle nitrate.
- Turf grass sod can be installed year-round if it is available.
- On a hot day, lawns will be 30 degrees cooler than asphalt and 14 degrees cooler than bare soil.
WHAT IS SOD?
Sod is mature grass and the soil beneath it that the grass has grown its roots into. Residential rolls of sod typically come in a 2ft x 5ft roll. This carpet like roll of sod covers 10sq ft and is placed on a properly prepared dirt area so the roots can grow deep.
Sod also has different names depending on the region. Sod is also called turf, turfgrass, turfgrass sod and sometimes just grass. So don't get confused if you hear someone call it turf instead of sod. They are all the same.
